How to: Brunch at Home

Hey everyone! I know I said I would share my DIY brunch with you yesterday and I need to apologize for my bad case of the Monday’s. You’ve been there right?

I start most weeks with a quick 10 minute meeting with myself. Quick look over the calendar, make a to-do list for the week, and then it’s off to school! Yesterday was one of those meetings that made me realize this was a much busier week than I expected. Last minute vacation tasks, picking up pieces I’ve ordered for our new apartment, babysitting, bible study…I think that’s all! I’m counting the days until we leave for Belize!! (8)

For now back to brunch! Oh ya’ll who doesn’t love brunch. Breakfast or lunch? Sweet or savory? Or Both! It’s just fabulous. This past Saturday I was invited to my first do-it-yourself brunch at a friend’s house and it was awesome. Besides the delicious banana waffles and veggie frittata it was a perfect laid back morning with good friends and good conversation.

Brunch has become a weekend tradition that you just can’t miss. What are you doing this weekend? If nothing else, probably going to brunch! The only downside I see to this is the toll your wallet takes. You start with coffee and water but will quickly move on to cocktails you can only find between 11-3. You think your feeling a little more breakfast than lunch this morning so you go with the stuffed french toast with bacon…all the while knowing you’re going to enjoy the left over french fries on your husbands plate. And will you be calling it a day once the meal is over, of course not! Chances are after your second mimosa you’ll all be making plans to continue this party down the street at the icehouse. Ta da, the perfect Saturday. Unfortunately for me my carefree college allowance days are over.

Thankfully it is easy to recreate brunch with friends at home! Find a couple brunch recipes that look good to you and invite a small group over. This helps keep you stress-free and keeps the setting intimate. Keep it casual with no dress code! It’s the weekend, sleep in and stay comfy!

Brew some coffee and have some fruit out. Next while people are arriving and enjoying coffee let yourself do any last minute prep if you need too. Start your waffles or pancakes if need too and as they finish invite your guests to fill their plates. Serve your food with a mimosa or bloody mary!

I enjoyed our uber-free brunch so much that I might have to turn it into a tradition. I hope if you like brunching as much as I do you’ll try it yourself!

Till next time, Sarah
